Samuel Thompson

Mr. Samuel "Sam" Thompson of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Marvin Edward Thompson and Tressie Mae Froggett Thompson, was born on Thursday, March 9, 1933 in Green County, Kentucky and departed this life on Thursday, July 4, 2019 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was 86 years, 3 months and 26 days of age.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Greenhill Baptist Church. He worked for Anaconda Wire and Cable Company in Summersville for 17 years. He was employed by the Green County Waste Water Treatment Facility for 15 years. He was a Veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. James L. Pruitt Post #5813, President of the Jaycees in 1969, Democratic Regional Commissioner for 39 years and past chairman of the Green County Democratic party.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Louise Turner Thompson of Greensburg.
Other survivors include five daughters and three sons-in-law: Deborah Hall, Joanie Chaney, Becky and Larry Benningfield all of Campbellsville, Jackie and J.W. Bennett of Greensburg and Sherri and Tim Larimore of Bowling Green; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Timmy and Dianna Thompson and William Joseph Thompson all of Campbellsville; twelve grandchildren: Bradley Thompson, Zachary and Sarah Thompson, Jake Thompson, Breanna Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Tanner Thompson, Josh Chaney, Kate and Charles Breeding, Larry Benningfield, Jr., Becky Hall, Caraline Thompson and Hunter Thompson; seven great-grandchildren: Starlet Thompson, Eli Thompson, Zander Thompson, Avah Thompson, Jennah Mudd, Kemma Breeding and James Marcos Benningfield; one brother and a sister-in-law: Dr. Paul Y. and Gail Thompson of North Carolina; a daughter-in-law and spouse: Angela and Jason Pennington of Glasgow; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Thompson was also preceded in death by a son: Samuel Edward Thompson, II; a grandson: Jonathan Edward Chaney; a son-in-law: Bill Hall; two sisters: Florence T. Wilcoxson and Isabelle T. Jenson; three brothers: Wallace Thompson, Wilbert Thompson and Carl Thompson.

The funeral services for Mr. Samuel Thompson will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Central Time, Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens with full military honors by the Glasgow D.A.V. Bro. J.W. Bennett, Bro. Wilburn Bonta and Bro. Steven James officiating.
Visitation is requested from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M., Central Time Sunday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7 A.M., Monday until time of the funeral service.
Memorials are suggested to be made to St. Jude's Children's Research or to Gideon Bible Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.
